Bose expands open-ear wireless earbud range with new models for sport and daily use

Bose has launched two new open-ear wireless earbuds, the Sport Open Earbuds for activity and the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) for everyday listening, featuring enhanced audio quality, AI noise suppression, and extended battery life.

Bose has broadened its open-ear range with two new wireless earbuds aimed at different uses: the Sport Open Earbuds for exercise and the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) for everyday listening. The launch extends a category that leaves the ear canal open, allowing users to stay aware of traffic, colleagues or surroundings while listening to audio. Bose says both models use its OpenAudio system and SpeechClarity for clearer calls, with AI helping to suppress background noise.

The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) are the more premium model and build on the version introduced in 2024. According to Bose and product coverage from What Hi-Fi? and Gadgets 360, they add a new driver for stronger bass, a Cinema Mode for spoken-word content and video, and battery life of up to nine hours, with a further 19.5 hours from the charging case. Bose also says the earbuds support Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint connections and IPX4 water resistance.

The Sport Open Earbuds are new to the line-up and are pitched at runners and gym users. Bose has given them a C-shaped cuff with a soft silicone finish, physical controls for use during workouts and IP54 protection against sweat, splashes and dust. The company says they last for seven hours on a charge, with up to 22 hours available from the case. Industry reports also note support for Google Fast Pair, SBC and AAC codecs, plus app-based customisation.

Both models are now available for pre-order in the US, with the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) due on 1 October and the Sport Open Earbuds on 15 October. Bose has set the Ultra model at $299, while the Sport version will cost $199. Colours vary by model, with Bose also offering limited-edition finishes.
