Rosstandart has added more than 60 smart-home device types to Russia’s OKPD 2 product classifier, a move that should give regulators a more precise way to track imports and identify goods that do not meet local rules. According to Izvestia, the change is intended to make it easier to separate these devices from broader categories and to check what is actually entering the market.
The updated list covers software for smart homes, controllers, wireless access points, pressure, gas and water-leak sensors, self-closing valves, as well as blinds and curtains. The same reporting says the new classification should also help authorities spot products marketed as Russian-made even when they are assembled entirely, or largely, from imported parts.
The step comes as concern over counterfeits remains high. Analysts quoted by Izvestia said exact figures for smart-home gadgets are not available, but in related product groups the problem is already significant. Checks on lighting equipment have found faults in almost half of samples, while counterfeit parts in IT equipment were previously estimated at 18%. Experts also warned that imported or non-compliant devices can create security risks, including remote disabling or unauthorised data collection.
That concern sits alongside a market that is still expanding quickly. Separate reporting from 1.ru said demand for smart-home installations in Russia more than tripled in spring 2026 compared with a year earlier, with especially strong growth in smart blinds, leak sensors, lighting and climate-control systems. Another report from the same outlet said the market is shifting from isolated devices towards integrated ecosystems, with domestic platforms such as Yandex’s “Dom s Alisoy” and Sber’s “Umny Dom” among the best known.
