SJCAM's SJ6 Ultra aims to disrupt budget action camera market with new 4K model

SJCAM launches the SJ6 Ultra, a low-cost action camera designed for first-time creators and short-form video content, featuring native 4K recording, dual displays, and stabilisation to compete in the affordable segment of the market.

SJCAM is pitching the SJ6 Ultra as a low-cost action camera for creators who want 4K capture without paying premium prices. The company says the model is aimed at first-time users and short-form video makers, with native 4K recording, a 166-degree ultra-wide view and lossless vertical shooting for social platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

According to SJCAM’s product page, the camera records 4K video at 30 frames per second and includes dual displays: a 2.0-inch touchscreen and a 1.3-inch rear screen. It also uses a six-axis gyroscope stabiliser, which is intended to reduce shake during movement-heavy recording.

The company is also highlighting practical features that matter more in entry-level gear than headline specifications. These include wireless microphone support, a waterproof housing rated to 30 metres and an out-of-the-box accessory bundle. SJCAM says the camera is designed to work with its M4 wireless microphone, which the company prices at $14.99, to address the weak audio that often limits cheaper action cameras.

That positioning places the SJ6 Ultra in a crowded budget segment, but SJCAM is clearly leaning on value rather than novelty. The company says the camera is available from its own store for $129, while Amazon UK pricing is listed at £99.99. For buyers wanting a compact action camera for motorcycling, travel filming or underwater use, the appeal lies in combining those features with relatively low total cost.
