HP’s ZBook Ultra G3a brings 300-billion-parameter AI models to a portable workstation

HP has launched the ZBook Ultra G3a in India with up to 192GB of unified memory, 160GB of dedicated VRAM and local support for large AI models, starting at Rs 2,89,990 before tax.

HP has brought the ZBook Ultra G3a 16-inch mobile workstation to India, pitching it at professionals in artificial intelligence, engineering, design and content creation. The machine is built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO platform and is intended to give users local compute for demanding AI and creative workloads without tying them to a fixed desktop setup. According to HP, the device is aimed at workers who need workstation-class capability in a thin and relatively portable chassis.

At the top end, the system can be configured with the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, a 55 TOPS neural processing unit and as much as 192GB of unified memory. HP says the workstation can also support up to 160GB of dedicated VRAM and run large language models with as many as 300 billion parameters locally. That positioning matters for developers and technical teams because it reduces dependence on cloud inference for some workloads, while the company also says the cooling system has been strengthened to allow materially higher thermal headroom and up to 100W of performance.

The display specification underlines the workstation brief. HP has fitted a 16-inch 2.8K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a combination that should appeal to users working on colour-sensitive design, video, visualisation and interface work. The system weighs about 1.9kg and is 17.9mm thick, which puts it closer to a premium portable notebook than a traditional heavy workstation. HP also says the 96Wh battery can last for up to 14 hours, while 140W and 180W GaN chargers are available. Other features include 5G support, HP Wolf Security and a keyboard designed to be user-replaceable.

On launch, Sanjeev Pathak, Senior Director – HP Solutions, HP India, said the company sees growing demand for systems that combine performance, mobility and intelligence as AI becomes more central to professional workflows. He added that the ZBook Ultra G3a is meant to bring AI at the edge to a mobile workstation, enabling advanced AI workloads and agentic AI use in more complex processes. In India, HP has priced the device at Rs 2,89,990 before tax, and it is being sold through the company’s commercial channel partners.
