ORICO’s USB4 NVMe dock clones SSDs offline at up to 40Gbps

ORICO’s dual-bay M.2 NVMe dock combines one-button, computer-free drive cloning with a 40Gbps USB4 connection and support for multiple SSD form factors.

ORICO has unveiled a dual-bay M.2 NVMe docking station that combines one-button offline cloning with a USB4 connection rated at up to 40Gbps. The company is positioning the device for users who need to move large SSD images quickly, maintain local backups without a host computer and manage high-capacity storage more efficiently. It is also offering a limited-time discount code, according to the announcement, which cuts the listed price from ¥18,999 to ¥12,349 until 31 October.

The dock is designed to copy directly from one SSD to another, with the cloning process handled on the unit itself rather than through software on a PC. ORICO says the system supports all standard M.2 NVMe form factors, including 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110, and that the target drive must be at least as large as the source drive for a complete clone. LED indicators are used to show cloning progress, while the aluminium chassis is intended to act as a passive heatsink during sustained transfers.

The broader ORICO range shows the company has been building around the same theme of compact storage expansion, high-speed USB connectivity and simple drive management. Its other docks and enclosures combine features such as multi-port hubs, card readers, Ethernet, Power Delivery and offline duplication, while earlier cloning products have supported direct SSD or hard-drive transfers without a computer. The new USB4 model pushes further on throughput, with ORICO saying the two bays can operate at 20Gbps each under the 40Gbps aggregate bandwidth.

That positioning makes the product relevant to creators, IT users and small offices that routinely shift large media libraries or system images between drives. Support for Windows, macOS and Linux should broaden its appeal, while the tool-free design is aimed at reducing setup time. As with any cloning device, however, users still need to match drive types carefully: ORICO notes that the dock is intended for NVMe devices and does not support SATA protocol cloning or cross-protocol duplication.
