Apple’s premium foldable iPhone has rapidly slipped into lengthy delivery delays in several markets, though the company has yet to reveal whether the scarcity reflects exceptional demand or a tightly limited launch allocation.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone, branded here as the iPhone Duo, has generated a striking early rush, with pre-orders appearing to exhaust initial stock in several markets within minutes of going live. Delivery estimates for new buyers have quickly slipped from the launch window into much later dates, and in the US some configurations are now showing waits stretching into January 2027. In China, Apple’s own website is also showing January 2027 delivery estimates, underlining how tightly constrained availability appears to be at the start.
The pace of the shift does not, however, tell the full story. Apple has not disclosed how many units were set aside for the first pre-order wave, which means the rapid sell-out could reflect either unusually strong demand or a deliberately limited opening allocation. Reuters-style caution is warranted here: until the company shares production or sales figures, it is not possible to separate genuine demand from a small initial supply. What is clear is that the launch has immediately run into a scarcity problem.
That scarcity is being felt across Apple’s own channels and on third-party retail sites. Tom’s Guide reported that shipping estimates varied by seller, with some buyers able to secure earlier dates through Best Buy, Walmart and carrier stores than through Apple directly. The same report said some carrier offers were still pointing to mid-November delivery, while other outlets were already showing much longer waits. It also noted that the shortage has encouraged resale activity, with some listings on eBay carrying extreme mark-ups.
The wider launch picture suggests Apple is treating the device as a tightly controlled premium release. TechRadar reported that the company had begun promoting its “Get Ready” pre-order feature to help customers lock in storage, colour and carrier choices in advance, while also highlighting trade-in and carrier discounts. At the same time, analysts and commentators have pointed to the complexity of building a foldable handset, including hinge supply and assembly challenges, as one plausible reason for limited initial volumes. The result is a familiar pattern for a high-profile Apple product: intense interest, immediate shortages and a launch period shaped as much by supply management as by consumer enthusiasm.
In India, the iPhone Duo is positioned firmly at the top end of the market. The base 256GB model is priced at ₹2,99,900, while the 2TB version reaches ₹4,49,900. Apple says the phone will come in Star White and Night Sky, with sales in India due to begin on 23 October. The handset features a book-style folding design, a 5.4-inch outer display, a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR panel when opened, A20 Pro silicon, iOS 27, dual 48-megapixel rear cameras and eSIM-only connectivity. For buyers, that makes availability as important as specification: a phone at this price point is not only a question of features, but of whether it can actually be obtained in time.
