RedMagic 12 Pro packs an 8,400mAh battery and 185Hz display for extreme gaming

RedMagic’s latest gaming flagship combines Qualcomm’s top-end chip with active liquid cooling, up to 1TB of storage and a battery larger than most mainstream phones.

RedMagic has unveiled the 12 Pro+ in China, with the device set to reach overseas markets under the simpler RedMagic 12 Pro name. The launch positions it as a gaming-focused flagship built around a high-refresh AMOLED screen, Qualcomm’s latest top-end chip and an unusually large battery for a performance phone.

Reports on the display differ slightly on size, with Technobaboy and several other outlets placing it at 6.85 inches, while T3 cites a 6.58-inch panel. What is consistent is the 2K AMOLED specification, the 185Hz refresh rate and the claim of up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness. The handset also uses an under-display 16MP front camera and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, keeping the front uninterrupted for gaming and media use.

Inside, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, paired with RedMagic’s RedCore R5 gaming chip. The company says the combination enables features such as ray tracing, frame interpolation and 2K upscaling in supported titles. Memory and storage options go as high as 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage, placing it among the more heavily specified Android phones announced this year.

The rear camera system is more restrained than the rest of the hardware, with a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and 8K video recording support. RedMagic is leaning much more heavily on cooling, however, with a new RGB liquid system, dual cooling loops around the processor and battery, and a built-in fan that can reportedly spin at up to 25,500rpm. That cooling package is designed to sustain gaming performance rather than photographic versatility.

Battery life is another major selling point. The phone carries an 8,400mAh cell, alongside 120W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, bypass charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging. In China, pricing starts at CNY 6,999 for the 12GB and 256GB model, rising to CNY 7,999 for the 16GB and 512GB version and CNY 8,999 for the 16GB and 1TB configuration. Global pricing has not yet been disclosed.
