Ugreen has launched budget M.2 SSD enclosures with support for drives up to 8TB, while its discounted 20Gbps model offers faster connectivity for compatible computers.
Ugreen has added a low-cost M.2 SSD enclosure to its range, offering two variants aimed at users who want portable external storage without paying premium prices. The enclosure is being sold in 10Gbps and 20Gbps versions, with the faster model positioned as the better value for buyers who want higher throughput and are prepared to use a compatible host device.
According to Notebookcheck and Ugreen’s own product pages, both versions share the same basic design: a built-in USB-C cable, a Type-C to Type-A adapter in the box, and an aluminium housing intended to keep weight down while aiding heat dissipation. The company also says the drive installation process takes only four steps, and the enclosure includes an indicator light and an adjustable clip on the braided cable.
The enclosure accepts 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280-size M.2 drives, with support for capacities up to 8TB. Ugreen’s product information shows the 10Gbps model uses USB 3.2 Gen 2, while the faster version is rated at 20Gbps. That distinction matters because the promotional material has referred to USB 3.0 Gen 2 for the 20Gbps model, although the correct standard for that speed would be USB 3.2 Gen 2×2.
Pricing is aggressive. Ugreen lists the 10Gbps model at $29.99 on Amazon, while the 20Gbps version is normally sold for $39.99 but is currently discounted to $34.99. That makes the quicker enclosure the stronger buy for anyone who can use its higher bandwidth, although the real-world gain will depend on the host computer, the SSD installed and the workload being moved.
