Yandex unveils a comprehensive smart home platform centred on its Alice voice assistant, integrating devices from lighting to security to create a more responsive living environment with new automation capabilities.
Yandex has spent several years building a smart home platform around Alice, its voice assistant, and the result is now a broad ecosystem of devices aimed at turning a flat or house into a more responsive living space. According to Yandex, the system is designed to let lights, climate controls, cameras and other gadgets work together through voice commands or the Home with Alice app, with certified third-party devices also able to join the setup. That means a user can start with a single speaker and gradually add equipment that handles lighting, comfort and security without needing a complex installation.
At the centre of the system is a Yandex Station with Alice or a Yandex Hub, which act as the control point for automation. The company says this approach lets users build routines that do far more than switch a lamp on and off: one command can trigger several actions at once, while devices can also react automatically to motion, room occupancy, temperature or time of day. Yandex says its certification programme is intended to give buyers confidence that compatible products meet its standards for function and security.
For many households, the easiest entry point is a smart bulb. Yandex’s RGB lamp is relatively inexpensive and simple to set up: once screwed in, it can usually be added through the smart home app in minutes. After that, the owner can adjust brightness, colour temperature and hue from millions of shades, or use voice control to change the lighting without reaching for a switch. The lamp can be used for gentle morning wake-ups, warmer evening light or coloured scenes for films and music.
A light strip offers the same flexibility with a more decorative edge. The Yandex LED strip can be mounted behind a television, along a shelf or around a work area, and its adhesive backing makes installation straightforward. It can also be cut or extended in sections, allowing it to fit different interiors. In practice, that makes it useful both as mood lighting and as an extra source of illumination, especially when linked to schedules or room-presence sensors.
One of the more practical additions is Yandex’s presence sensor, which is more sophisticated than a simple motion detector. Using millimetre-wave technology, it can recognise that someone is in the room even when they are sitting still. That opens the door to more intelligent routines, such as turning on bright light in a workspace, softening the lighting in a rest area or starting music when someone enters a zone. The sensor can also work locally, which matters if the internet connection is unreliable.
Security is another major part of the package. Yandex offers a rotating IP camera with Full HD recording, a 350-degree horizontal view, night vision and two-way audio. The company says it can store footage either on a memory card or in the cloud, while a privacy mode physically turns the lens away when surveillance is not wanted. In a family home, that can make the camera useful as a baby monitor, pet camera or simple live check on what is happening at home, while motion and sound alerts add a basic layer of monitoring.
There are also smaller but highly useful devices such as temperature and humidity sensors, door and window contact sensors and an infrared remote that can bring older appliances into the same ecosystem. Together, they make it possible to link a radiator, air conditioner, fan or television to the same app and voice interface. In Yandex’s own demonstrations, these gadgets were combined into routines such as a greeting mode, a bedroom lighting scene and a security setup that sends an alert if movement or unusual sound is detected. The practical appeal is not just convenience but a home that reacts more intelligently to the people living in it.
