Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note 17 in India, featuring a massive 6.99-inch OLED screen, an 8,000mAh battery, and promises four Android updates and six years of security patches, targeting heavy streamers and commuters.
Xiaomi has brought the Redmi Note 17 to India with a specification sheet built around endurance. The handset pairs an 8,000mAh battery with a large OLED screen and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset, positioning it as a mid-range phone aimed at heavy streamers, commuters and anyone who wants fewer charging stops. The India launch follows the model’s rollout in China, where Xiaomi first unveiled the device before expanding availability.
The phone’s headline feature is its 6.99-inch OLED panel, which Xiaomi says is its first display of that size in this class. It offers Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits, along with DCI-P3 colour support, a 240Hz touch sampling rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. An in-display fingerprint reader is also included. Reports on the China launch describe the same screen as a 7-inch flat OLED, underscoring how close the two versions are in positioning and hardware.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 17 runs on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, a 4nm chip that Xiaomi says produces an AnTuTu score above 630,000. The company is pairing it with Android 16 and HyperOS 3, and it is promising four major Android upgrades and six years of security patches. That is unusually long support for a phone in this price band and may be as important to buyers as the hardware itself.
The camera setup is modest by premium standards, led by a 50-megapixel main sensor and an 8-megapixel front camera, but Xiaomi is leaning heavily on AI features for scene detection, portraits and low-light tuning. The phone also includes Wi-Fi 6, 5G, Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C, an infrared sensor and IP65 protection. Despite the huge battery, Xiaomi says the device stays relatively slim at 8.45mm and weighs 225g. It will come in Starlight Purple, Dark Night and Arctic Blue, with prices starting at Rs. 27,999 and an effective launch price of Rs. 24,999 with bank discounts. Sales begin on August 12 through Amazon India and other retail channels.
