Google rolls out its always-on Gemini Spark AI assistant in Singapore, allowing users to automate tasks seamlessly across Google Workspace apps, even when devices are closed or locked.
Google is rolling out Gemini Spark in Singapore, extending the company’s push towards an always-on AI assistant that can keep working after a laptop is closed or a phone is locked. The feature is being introduced over the next few weeks for Google AI Pro subscribers in the city-state, according to the announcement cited by NXTmag. Built on Gemini 3.6 Flash, Spark is designed to run in the cloud and take over routine jobs without constant supervision.
The idea behind Spark is to move Gemini beyond a simple question-and-answer tool. Google says the system can operate continuously under a user’s direction and then carry out assigned work on its own on Google’s cloud infrastructure. Because it is tied directly into Google Workspace, it can move across Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Calendar without extra setup, helping users manage tasks while they sleep, travel or are away from their devices.
Google has also been positioning Spark as a broader automation layer for everyday life and work. Examples highlighted in the launch material include a workflow that checks for local events each week, compiles recommendations into a document and places selected items into Calendar. Another is aimed at personal finance, scanning receipts and invoices in Gmail for price rises, expiring free trials and draft cancellation emails. A third version is aimed at small businesses, where the agent monitors incoming enquiries and prepares tailored replies for review.
Spark is not new globally. TechCrunch reported that Google first unveiled the assistant at Google I/O in May, where it was described as a 24/7 agent built on Gemini models and Google’s agent framework, with integration across Workspace and web access through Chrome. Google’s own update page said the feature has since gained support for setup help, broader Workspace actions and more languages for Google AI Ultra users, though availability remains limited in several countries. Other reports have also noted expansion to macOS and wider app monitoring, underscoring Google’s effort to make Gemini a more persistent, background presence across devices.
