Fenix’s ARE-D2 is a dual-bay smart charger designed for a mix of rechargeable cells, including Li-ion, Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries. According to Fenix, it is meant to handle different sizes and chemistries while keeping the charging process simple through automatic control and a high-definition LCD that shows charging, discharging and battery status.
The charger supports Micro USB input at up to 2,000mA, which Fenix says helps speed up charging. It also includes a USB discharging function, allowing it to act as a power source for other devices in a pinch. B&H Photo Video says the unit can charge two batteries at once, either together or independently, and offers selectable charging current.
Safety is a central part of the design. Fenix says the charger includes built-in protection against short circuits, over-current, over-voltage and reverse polarity. The company also says an electronic management system is used to help optimise charging time and battery life. Fenix-store adds that the charger is CE, FCC and WEEE certified.
The ARE-D2 is specified to operate in temperatures from -20C to 50C, with humidity between 5% and 90%, while storage temperatures range from -20C to 80C. Batteries are not included.
