Samsung launches Galaxy Watch9 and Ultra2 with groundbreaking wellness and sport features

Samsung Electronics Japan introduces the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, featuring advanced health tracking and professional-grade dive capabilities, signalling a significant leap in wearable technology for health and outdoor enthusiasts.

Samsung Electronics Japan said on Friday it has launched two new smartwatches in the country, the Galaxy Watch9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, alongside official accessories. The devices are being sold through Amazon, major electronics retailers and Samsung’s own stores on Rakuten and Yahoo! Shopping. Samsung said availability may vary by country, model and the smartphone paired with the watch.

The company has positioned the Galaxy Watch9 as a daily health companion built around comfort and continuous monitoring. Samsung says the watch uses a new air-pocket structure to help the slim case and strap sit more securely on the wrist, making it suitable for workouts and sleep as well as all-day wear. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform and carries a 390mAh battery, which Samsung says is 20% larger than the Galaxy Watch8’s. Health tools are centred on Samsung Health, which brings together activity, mindfulness, nutrition, sleep and vital signs. During sleep, the watch tracks metrics including heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen, then uses that data to build personalised baselines and monitor changes over time.

Samsung also says the Galaxy Watch9 can turn multiple wellness signals into more practical guidance. Its heart health score combines activity, sleep, body composition and stress trends into a single measure, while fitness index and daily aerobic load are intended to help users judge training readiness and recovery after harder sessions. The company said the watch is meant to turn biometric data into simpler feedback for everyday use.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is aimed at more demanding sport and outdoor users. According to Samsung’s global announcement, it is the first Galaxy Watch model to use the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, pairs that chip with an 800mAh battery and offers a display that reaches 5,000 nits, which the company describes as the brightest among smartwatches sold worldwide. Samsung says the new cushion-style design is 12% thinner than the previous model and the strap is 26% lighter thanks to a revised air-pocket structure. The watch adds trail running tools that show elevation data, climb progress and total ascent and descent in real time, and it can automatically record depth, dive time and water temperature when used in water. Samsung says the watch carries EN13319 certification, IP69K and 10ATM ratings, and that a Mares-developed app will bring pro-level dive computer functions to the Ultra2 exclusively for two years on Wear OS watches. Samsung Japan also said launch-day buyers can receive a 30% discount on watch bands as part of a promotional campaign.
