Xiaomi’s Mijia brand signals aggressive expansion into India’s smart-home market with new appliances and ecosystem integration

Xiaomi India launches its global Mijia brand domestically, hinting at a strategic push into connected household appliances as part of a broader ecosystem expansion, marking a new chapter in the company’s 12-year presence in the country.

Xiaomi India has formally introduced Mijia, its global smart-home brand, signalling a broader push into connected household products as the company marks 12 years in the country. The move suggests Xiaomi wants to be judged as a home-technology supplier, not just a smartphone maker, at a time when India’s smart-home market is expanding and consumers are increasingly buying devices that work as part of a single ecosystem.

According to Gadgets 360, Xiaomi has already confirmed entry into India’s large home-appliances segment, describing the strategy as a localised “phone plus ecosystem” approach. That would extend a business that already covers smart televisions, tablets, wearables, security cameras and air purifiers, and give the company a clearer route into higher-value categories such as air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines.

The Mijia name is not new to Xiaomi globally. In China, it has been used across a wide range of home products, from robot vacuum cleaners and kitchen appliances to lighting and large appliances. Xiaomi has not yet said which items will arrive first in India, but the company has indicated that some existing home and lifestyle products will be rebranded under Mijia, with air purifiers likely to be among the earliest examples. That would fit with reporting from Gizmochina, which said Xiaomi is preparing a wider appliance rollout in India during the second half of 2026, including smart air conditioners and refrigerators with HyperOS integration and AI-based energy optimisation.

The strategy also aligns with Xiaomi’s wider “Human × Car × Home” plan, which aims to connect smartphones, wearables, household devices and vehicles within one software layer. Xiaomi’s EV push remains limited to China, but the company has already spent years building consumer recognition in India through products such as smart TVs, speakers and fitness bands, alongside its Mi Home retail format. If Mijia launches are priced aggressively and integrate cleanly with HyperOS, Xiaomi could turn that installed base into a more complete smart-home business.
