Leaked images suggest Xiaomi is launching a redesigned Mix Fold 5 and a new HyperOS 4 interface earlier than expected, signalling a significant push into premium foldables and software innovation this autumn.
Xiaomi appears to be preparing a significant refresh of both its foldable phone line and its software this autumn, with leaked images pointing to a wider Mix Fold 5 and an updated HyperOS 4 interface. The latest pictures, first circulated on Weibo, suggest the device is not a new Pad model but the next generation of Xiaomi’s book-style foldable, arriving with a noticeably different external shape and a more compact overall profile than earlier Mix Fold devices.
The handset is said to move closer to the dimensions of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range, although the design language looks more angular. Earlier leaks indicated that the inner display would adopt a broader 7:5 aspect ratio, while later reports from Gizmochina and other outlets added claims of a 7.5-inch to 7.6-inch foldable screen, Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 processor, a 200-megapixel main camera and a 6,000mAh battery with wireless charging. Several reports also say the device has already passed regulatory approval in China and is linked to the model number 2608BPX34C.
Timing is also shifting. Rather than waiting for the Xiaomi 18 series, which is still expected later in September, multiple reports now suggest the Mix Fold 5 could arrive in early September, with some earlier speculation placing it even sooner. That would fit with other claims that the phone is already close to launch and may be the first Xiaomi device to ship with HyperOS 4.
The software itself is drawing attention. Promotional images apparently leaked from China show what Xiaomi is calling a “Soft Glass Design”, a look that borrows heavily from Apple’s recent “Liquid Glass” aesthetic. The revised interface is said to include a redesigned lock screen, stacked home-screen widgets, a reworked Xiaomi Control Centre, new folder sizes and a smarter icon grid. Xiaomi is also said to be pushing more AI features into the platform, with a refreshed Super Xiao AI assistant for China, deeper use of Google Gemini in international versions, AI-assisted text input and upgraded note-taking tools.
If the leaks are accurate, HyperOS 4 could become a wider platform update across Xiaomi phones and tablets over the coming months, not just a software layer for the new foldable. For Xiaomi, the combination of a redesigned foldable and a more heavily engineered interface suggests a broader attempt to sharpen its premium hardware story at the same time as it updates the way users interact with it.
