Tata Motors accelerates Indian EV and premium segment push with four new launches

Tata Motors plans a strategic expansion in India’s passenger-vehicle market with four upcoming launches, including updated petrol and electric models, and a flagship electric SUV, signalling a significant shift towards innovation and premium offerings.

Tata Motors is preparing a fresh push in India’s passenger-vehicle market with four planned launches that span internal-combustion, electric and premium segments. According to CarToq, the line-up includes the Tigor facelift, Tigor.ev facelift, Safari.ev and the Avinya X, a mix that shows the company is widening its portfolio while keeping its mass-market models current.

The updated Tigor is expected to be the most immediate of the four. CarToq says the sedan will adopt a sharper front end inspired by the latest Tiago, with slimmer headlamps, a closed grille, a new bumper and revised lighting at the rear. Inside, the cabin is expected to gain a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, dual wireless charging pads and features such as rear USB-C ports, automatic climate control and cruise control. Auto Data’s existing specifications for the current Tigor show that Tata’s compact sedan still sits in a familiar footprint and continues to use 1.2-litre petrol and CNG powertrains, so the facelift appears aimed more at technology and design than at a mechanical overhaul.

A parallel update is also being prepared for the Tigor.ev. CarToq reports that the electric sedan will receive styling changes, a bigger infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster and wireless charging, while retaining the 26 kWh battery pack already used on the current model, with a claimed range of 315 km. That keeps the model positioned as an affordable city-focused EV rather than a long-range rival to larger electric crossovers. V3Cars also notes that Tata has recently continued to refresh the conventional Tigor line with small changes such as new paint options, underlining the model’s role as a steadily maintained entry in the brand’s portfolio.

The most significant new electric model appears to be the Safari.ev. CarToq says it will be Tata’s first three-row electric SUV and is expected around the festive season, with a triple-screen dashboard, a dual-motor QWD all-wheel-drive system and torque output of up to 500 Nm. Further reporting from CarToq says the vehicle is being tested and is intended to compete with the Mahindra XEV 9S. ZigWheels and CarBike360 both point to a launch window in 2026, with estimates around May or the festive period, though pricing expectations differ, ranging from about ₹22.50 lakh to ₹32 lakh. That gap suggests the final specification and battery choice could still influence where Tata places the model in the market.

At the top end, the Avinya X is shaping up as Tata’s new electric flagship. According to CarToq, it will be the first production model under the Avinya name and will sit above the Harrier.ev and Safari.ev. The report says Tata plans to use the Freelander EV-linked E0X architecture, which can support large batteries, rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive layouts and an 800V electrical system for faster charging. The company is expected to pair that hardware with premium equipment including Level 2 ADAS, over-the-air software updates, Vehicle-to-Load capability and advanced connected features, putting the Avinya X in a very different class from Tata’s mainstream offerings.
