Leaked images suggest Google is set to elevate its Googlebook range with premium designs and AI features, signalling a shift from affordable Chromebooks to high-end devices in collaboration with Asus and Lenovo.
Leaked renders appear to show early Googlebook machines from Asus and Lenovo, offering the clearest glimpse yet of how Google’s new laptop category may look when it reaches the market later this year. The images suggest a more polished, premium design than the average Chromebook, with Google’s distinctive glowbar feature built into the chassis and a broad selection of ports that includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The pictures are not official, and some details look distorted, but they broadly line up with Google’s stated goal of making Googlebooks a higher-end device class. Google announced Googlebook in May as a new family of laptops built around Gemini Intelligence and set to arrive in autumn 2026. According to Google and reports from TechCrunch and MacRumors, the platform combines Android and ChromeOS foundations, with AI features such as Magic Pointer at the centre of the experience. Google has also named Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo as launch partners.
For Asus, the leaked device appears to use a light alloy chassis that is said to be both lighter and stronger than previous versions. The design follows the same general language as the company’s recent Chromebook line, but with more pronounced premium cues and what looks like Google’s glowbar integrated above the keyboard area. Google has said the feature is intended to be both decorative and functional, serving as a signature element across the Googlebook range. That fits with comments reported by TechSpot, which said Google plans to impose tighter hardware rules than it did for Chromebooks in order to keep the user experience consistent across different manufacturers.
The Lenovo images point in the same direction. Android Central reported that Lenovo is preparing two laptops and a 2-in-1 device, with the laptops closely resembling the company’s current Chromebook styling. The leaked material shows a white finish, Lenovo branding, side-mounted speaker grilles and the same mix of USB-C and USB-A ports seen on the Asus render. The 2-in-1 model appears to support a stylus and ships with a keyboard and kickstand cover, suggesting Google wants the Googlebook line to stretch beyond conventional clamshell notebooks.
Taken together, the leaks suggest Google is trying to reposition Android-based laptops as a premium alternative rather than a low-cost education option. That would mark a notable shift from the Chromebook strategy that dominated the last 15 years. Industry reports say Googlebooks are intended to lean heavily on Gemini-driven tools such as contextual suggestions, image comparison and quick data extraction, with deeper integration across Gmail, Calendar, Drive and Android phones. If the leak is accurate, Asus and Lenovo may be among the first manufacturers to show how far Google is willing to push that idea in hardware.
