AMD has quietly introduced new Ryzen 5 439 and Ryzen 7 449 notebook chips, stripping away AI neural processing units and scaling back key specifications, signalling a shift in its mobile processor strategy.
AMD has quietly broadened its mobile processor line-up with the Ryzen 5 439 and Ryzen 7 449, two notebook chips that strip away the neural processing unit found in the closely related Ryzen AI models. According to Notebookcheck, the new parts appeared on AMD’s product pages on 9 August and sit within the Gorgon Point family, but they are not branded as Ryzen AI devices and do not list an NPU at all.
The Ryzen 5 439 is broadly aligned with the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440, but AMD has trimmed key specifications. It keeps the same split of three Zen 5 and three Zen 5c cores, yet boosts to only 4.6GHz rather than 4.8GHz. The Zen 5c cluster is also slower, topping out at 3.3GHz instead of 3.5GHz, while the L3 cache is cut in half from 16MB to 8MB. AMD says the Pro model’s XDNA NPU can deliver up to 50 TOPS, but that figure is absent from the Ryzen 5 439 listing.
The Ryzen 7 449 follows the same pattern. It resembles the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450, with four Zen 5 and four Zen 5c cores and a Radeon 860M integrated graphics chip, but its peak clock is reduced to 5.0GHz from 5.1GHz and the Zen 5c cluster runs at up to 3.4GHz instead of 3.6GHz. AMD lists the Pro chip’s NPU at up to 50 TOPS and its full platform AI performance at 66 TOPS, yet those specifications are not included for the new non-AI part.
Both processors retain a 28-watt default thermal design power, with a configurable range of 15 watts to 54 watts. They also use TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process and the FP8 socket shared with the Ryzen AI counterparts. AMD has not announced pricing or notebook designs using either chip, and its own product search appears to contain a labelling error, with the parts placed under the Ryzen 400 tab while a comparison table refers to AMD Ryzen 6000 Series Processors. That mismatch suggests the new entries may have been added in haste.
