Cabletime has unveiled the ScreenDock, a novel USB-C dock featuring a 5.5-inch secondary display, aiming to redefine space-efficient workstation setups for hybrid workers and sneakily push the boundaries of docking technology.
Cabletime is trying to make a standard USB-C dock do more than move data and power a laptop. Its new ScreenDock adds a 5.5-inch, 720p display to the familiar hub format, giving remote workers a small secondary screen that can show clocks, weather, calendars, notes, to-do lists or a close-up view of creative work. Once connected by a single USB-C cable, the dock appears to Mac and PC systems as an external monitor, which means it can also mirror almost anything from the main computer.
The idea fits Cabletime’s wider push into workstation accessories. Forbes reported that the company has already released USB-C docks aimed at hybrid workers, while another Cabletime product was designed to drive multiple external displays and included a privacy button that could switch off a screen instantly. ScreenDock takes that thinking a step further by folding the display into the dock itself, rather than treating it as a separate accessory. That makes the unit more relevant for desks where space is tight and laptop port shortages are already forcing users to rely on hubs.
Cabletime says the panel can serve several practical roles. It can sit upright like a small photo frame or angle towards the user, and it folds flat for travel. A side button offers three brightness settings and the display can be turned off when it is not needed. The company also suggests uses such as app tutorials, AI-generated dashboards and even a digital picture frame. Related products from other makers point to a growing category of docks with built-in screens, though reviews of some earlier Cabletime hubs noted that the display element was less useful than the ports themselves.
Beyond the screen, the dock includes 100W pass-through charging, so a USB-C charger can power a laptop while other peripherals remain connected. It also adds 1Gbps Ethernet, SD and microSD card slots and HDMI output capable of 4K at 60Hz. Cabletime is funding the ScreenDock on Kickstarter, where it is listed at $119 against an expected retail price of $169. The campaign has already exceeded its target with more than 175 backers, but as with any crowdfunding project, delivery is not guaranteed. If all goes to plan, shipments are due in October 2026, with US postage starting at $15 per unit.
