The Galaxy Z Fold 8 demonstrates remarkable resilience in rigorous scratch, heat, and bend tests, raising optimism about its durability despite the mechanically complex nature of foldable devices.
Samsung’s latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, is drawing attention online after a series of rough handling tests suggested the device is far sturdier than many expected. A video from the JerryRigEverything channel posted on August 9 showed the handset surviving repeated scratches, heat and forceful bending, while a separate test from the Korean YouTube channel 궁금하기, posted on August 5, also ended with the phone still functioning.
In the JerryRigEverything test, the display, frame and camera area were scraped with sharp tools and exposed to flame before the phone was bent hard several times. The inner screen continued to work afterwards. The creator called the result impressive and said the new model appeared to be another notably durable foldable. By 5:30 p.m. on August 10, the video had attracted 1.11 million views. 궁금하기 reached a similar conclusion after scratching the screen, submerging the device in water and bending it in the opposite direction of the hinge. The host said the phone resisted the abuse far better than expected and that no obvious damage appeared.
According to Samsung’s product information, the Fold 8 uses an Armour Aluminium frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the outer display and Victus 2 on other glass surfaces. The company also says the screen sits over a dual-layer titanium shock-absorbing structure, while the Armour FlexHinge is designed to improve rigidity and protect the folding mechanism. Samsung rates the device IP48, which means it is built to handle everyday dust exposure and accidental water contact rather than full immersion.
Other reporting suggests the Fold 8’s durability story rests heavily on Samsung’s new Flex Titanium display layer, which combines a titanium alloy film with a supporting plate to spread impact and keep the panel stable. SamMobile says the hinge is rated for 500,000 folds, while Samsung has previously used that same headline figure to market recent foldables, up from an earlier 200,000-fold benchmark. As with any durability claim, however, real-world use still matters: foldables remain mechanically complex devices, and extreme torture tests do not fully predict how a phone will hold up after months of pocket use, pressure and dust.
