The basic hardware remains familiar: a 12mm dynamic driver sits alongside dual Knowles balanced armature drivers, with Bluetooth 5.3, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, multipoint support and water and dust resistance. Reviewers said the result is still one of the company’s strongest products, but the update is aimed more at refinement than reinvention.
The key change is a new sound profile created with Cameron Oatley, better known as GoldenSound. According to SoundGuys and TechRadar, the collaboration is intended to deliver a more neutral, accurate presentation, with emphasis on tonal balance, detail and bass control. The tuning is available through Status’s companion app, where it joins the existing EQ options rather than replacing them.
That distinction matters for existing owners. The new edition does not appear to bring major hardware changes over the standard Pro X, and the review from The Xbox Hub said the differences are small unless a buyer specifically wants the GoldenSound profile and the updated black-and-gold finish. Talk Android reported that the earbud shell is also 21% smaller than earlier generations, which should help reduce bulk in the ear, although RTINGS has previously noted that the Pro X design is still relatively substantial compared with some rivals.
Pricing and positioning reinforce the same message. SoundGuys said the GoldenSound Edition is priced at $279 and was available for preorder, while The Xbox Hub put the UK price at about £249. The broader verdict across the reviews is consistent: this is the most polished version of the Pro X yet, but it is best viewed as an upgrade for new buyers or sound enthusiasts rather than an essential replacement for existing Pro X owners.
