Xiaomi expands its budget Redmi series in Italy with two new devices featuring a massive 7,500 mAh battery, a large 6.9-inch display, and a focus on longevity over premium design. The Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G target users prioritising battery life and value for money.
Xiaomi has broadened its low-cost Redmi line in Italy with two new models built around the same selling points: a very large battery, a 6.9-inch display and a 50-megapixel main camera. The Redmi 17 is on sale now, while the Redmi 17 5G is due in September, with Xiaomi positioning the pair as value-focused devices for buyers who want endurance more than premium materials or flagship performance.
The most distinctive feature is the 7,500 mAh battery, a capacity that is unusually high for this price bracket. Xiaomi says the Redmi 17 can deliver up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of music listening and 46 hours of calls, while the 5G model is rated for up to 28 hours of local 1080p video playback, 109 hours of music and 53 hours of calls. Those figures are laboratory results, so real-world use will vary, but the numbers underline how strongly the company is leaning on battery life as the key differentiator. Both phones also support reverse wired charging at up to 22.5 watts.
The display is another shared feature. Xiaomi has fitted both devices with a flat 6.9-inch panel using AdaptiveSync technology, which can switch between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz depending on content and app support. The company has also added DC dimming, three TÜV Rheinland eye-comfort certifications, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. Wet Touch support is meant to keep the screen responsive when it is damp. Leaks before launch largely matched Xiaomi’s final specification sheet, including the large screen, 7,500 mAh battery and HyperOS 3 software.
The two models diverge mainly in their chipsets and network support. The Redmi 17 uses MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra for 4G use, while the Redmi 17 5G switches to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Both run Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and include Memory Extension, which borrows storage space to simulate extra RAM. On the rear, Xiaomi has placed a 50-megapixel main camera alongside software features based on artificial intelligence, including a dual-view recording mode that captures from the front and rear cameras at the same time. Stereo speakers are included too, and Xiaomi says the volume can be pushed well beyond the standard range, although the company’s 300% claim refers to a wider adjustment scale rather than a simple threefold gain in output.
Pricing starts at €249.90 for the Redmi 17 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with a launch offer reducing that to €199.90. The 4GB/256GB version is listed at €279.90, or €249.90 during the introductory period. The Redmi 17 5G will arrive in Black, Blue and Orange from €269.90, with 4GB/128GB and 4GB/256GB variants planned. Xiaomi is clearly targeting buyers who want long battery life, a large screen and modern software without moving into mid-range pricing.
