Apple’s £1,999 iPhone Duo foldable opens for UK pre-orders

Apple’s first foldable iPhone goes up for pre-order in the UK on 16 October, with trade-in deals available to offset its premium price.

Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, goes on pre-order in the UK at 1 p.m. BST on Friday, 16 October, with general sale following on Friday, 23 October, according to Apple’s UK newsroom and product pages. The device is positioned as the company’s most ambitious iPhone yet, combining a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer screen and a precision-engineered hinge. Apple says it will be available in two colours, Star White and Night Sky.

The starting price is £1,999 for the 256GB model, rising to £2,199 for the 512GB version, Apple said. On its business store, the company says customers can buy the handset unlocked or on a carrier plan, while retailers including Currys have already posted pre-order pages ahead of launch. The Mirror reported that UK networks and sellers such as EE, Vodafone, O2, Sky Mobile and giffgaff were preparing launch-day offers, with many buyers expected to spread the cost over 24 to 36 months.

Trade-in remains the main route to soften the blow of Apple’s pricing. The Mirror said Vodafone is offering up to £855 off when an iPhone 17 Pro Max is traded in, which would reduce the upfront cost of the 256GB iPhone Duo to £1,144, while EE is offering savings of up to £750. Apple’s own materials confirm the Duo will not be cheap: even at entry level, it sits well above the price of most mainstream smartphones and, in practice, is likely to compete as much on prestige as on value.

That is especially true in the foldable market, where Android rivals remain less expensive. The Mirror noted that Google’s Pixel Pro Fold 11 starts at £1,799 for 256GB, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 begins at £1,699. Apple is hoping to justify the premium with its hardware and software package, including the A20 Pro chip, iOS 27 multitasking support and a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system. According to the company’s product page, the foldable design is intended to make everyday tasks such as messaging, reading and video capture more flexible, while keeping the phone compact enough to carry like a standard handset.
