ASUS unveils a budget-friendly version of its Vivobook Pro 16 in China featuring AMD Ryzen AI 9 H 465 processor and a high-end OLED display, challenging the Intel-based model with a competitive price and fresh specifications.
ASUS has introduced a refreshed Vivobook Pro 16 in China with AMD silicon, positioning it as a cheaper alternative to the Intel-based version already on sale. According to Jagat Review, the new model uses an AMD Ryzen AI 9 H 465 processor and trims some memory and storage to bring the price down.
The main trade-off is in the core configuration. ASUS has reduced RAM from 32GB to 16GB and cut the SSD from 1TB to 512GB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Even so, the laptop still offers two M.2 2280 slots, which gives buyers room to expand storage later without replacing the existing drive.
The display remains the most aggressive part of the specification sheet. ASUS says the 16-inch OLED panel has a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, full DCI-P3 coverage and peak brightness of 1,100 nits. That places it well above older Vivobook Pro models such as the Intel-powered Pro 16X OLED, which used slower panels with lower brightness and refresh rates.
ASUS has also kept the machine aimed at sustained creative work rather than pure portability. The company says the cooling system uses a 75mm fan, copper fins and a D10 heat pipe. Other retained features include an 80Wh battery, USB-C charging at up to 100W, a 180-degree hinge, a 7.1-inch touchpad, an IR camera with Windows Hello support, dual microphones and a backlit keyboard. At about 1.65kg, it is not especially light, but it remains within the range expected for a 16-inch creator laptop.
Connectivity has changed slightly from the Intel version. The Ryzen model includes one USB4 port instead of Thunderbolt 4, plus one USB-C port, two USB-A ports and HDMI 2.1. ASUS says USB4 still supports data transfers of up to 40Gbps, matching the headline speed of Thunderbolt 4. The laptop is currently listed in China at 7,699 yuan, or roughly $1,080, but ASUS has not said when, or if, it will ship globally.
