Leaked images suggest Google’s Pixel Watch 5 will focus on AI and software enhancements, while introducing a themed Stephen Curry edition ahead of its expected August launch.
Google’s Pixel Watch 5 is shaping up to be a cautious update rather than a full redesign, with leaked marketing images showing a device that looks almost unchanged from the Pixel Watch 4. The latest renders suggest Google is keeping the familiar circular case, while leaning harder on software and AI features, including Gemini-powered functions, smart alarms that aim to wake the wearer at a more suitable sleep stage and an AI Coach that can interpret activity patterns.
The same leaks point to the health tracking tools already associated with the Pixel line, including blood oxygen monitoring, atrial fibrillation detection, sleep tracking and heart rate variability analysis. That would keep the watch in the same broad category as its predecessor, with the real question being whether Google has improved battery life, display brightness or processing power enough to make the upgrade compelling. Industry reports have suggested a new Google-made Tensor chip, thinner bezels and better efficiency, although none of that has been confirmed by Google.
Timing around the launch has also become unusually clear. Reports indicate that Google plans to unveil the watch at its Made by Google event on August 12 in New York, alongside the Pixel 11 range, with retail availability expected later in the year. One leak even suggests an October release window, which would fit Google’s recent pattern of announcing devices before they reach stores.
Alongside the standard models, Google is also said to be preparing a Stephen Curry special edition. According to leaked materials reported by GSMArena and other outlets, the 45mm version would ship with an exclusive woven loop band in stone grey and taupe, with orange accents, a Stephen Curry and #LockIn label and a water-repellent finish aimed at active use. The design appears to be based on the regular LTE model rather than a hardware variant, making it more of a themed accessory package than a distinct product.
The pricing leak suggests Google is not treating the special edition as a major premium product. The Curry version is said to cost $669 or €579, about $35 or €30 more than the regular Pixel Watch 5. The limited run is also expected to be sold only while supplies last and not in every market, which means the watch is likely to be positioned more as a collector’s item than a mainstream option.
