Honor’s new Robot Phone, featuring a retractable robotic camera and professional imaging tools, has garnered over 400,000 pre-orders in just three weeks, signalling strong early market interest in robotic camera systems.
Honor’s Robot Phone has drawn more than 400,000 pre-orders in about three weeks, according to the company, underscoring strong early interest in a device it is positioning as one of its most unusual camera-focused handsets. The Chinese maker said the phone will go on sale on 18 August after opening reservations last month.
Luo Wei, Honor’s chief imaging engineer, said the level of demand was already high enough that some buyers might miss out. The company has also framed the device as a new kind of imaging product rather than a conventional smartphone, with a retractable robotic camera mechanism and software features built around automated shooting and subject tracking. Honor has tied the launch to its work with German camera specialist ARRI, which has contributed professional video tools such as Log recording and colour-grading support, according to earlier company disclosures.
The Robot Phone is being sold in two configurations: 12GB of RAM with 512GB of storage for 9,999 yuan and 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage for 12,999 yuan. Buyers in China have also been offered reservation incentives, including a lifetime YOYO AI SVIP membership, a year of gimbal replacement service, standard accessories, instalment plans and trade-in subsidies. Reservation terms reported by Gizmochina indicate that deposits secure access to the purchase channel, but not necessarily a specific colour or storage variant, and that limited stock will be allocated in payment order.
Earlier reporting from TechNode said Honor unveiled the phone at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, where it described the device as its first Robot Phone and linked it to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, a 1.5K flat display and 120W wired charging. The defining hardware feature is a four-degree-of-freedom titanium-alloy robotic gimbal, which Honor says supports 360-degree subject tracking and cinematic camera movement.
