Huawei has launched the MateBook Pro S, a remarkably slim and lightweight 14.2-inch laptop featuring a flexible OLED touchscreen, HarmonyOS 6.1, and advanced hardware, but it remains limited to China with uncertain international release prospects.
Huawei has unveiled the MateBook Pro S, a 14.2-inch laptop that pushes portability to an extreme. In its lightest version, the machine weighs 798g and is 11.9mm thick, placing it among the slimmest notebooks currently announced. Huawei has paired that chassis with a flexible OLED touchscreen, a 120Hz refresh rate and a quoted peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
The laptop is built around Huawei’s Kirin XE90 processor and runs HarmonyOS 6.1 rather than Windows. According to Huawei’s claims, the chip is a refined version of the Kirin X90 used elsewhere in the company’s recent devices, and the cooling system is rated for up to 20W of sustained output. TechRadar noted that the processor remains relatively untested by the standards of mainstream laptop silicon, which makes independent performance checks especially important.
Battery life is listed at up to 18 hours, and Huawei says the device includes WiFi 7+ support and a six-microphone array. The company has also released several trims, including standard, Soft Light, Privacy and Collector’s Edition models, with weight varying from 798g to 825g depending on configuration. Huawei’s wider design choices, including a magnesium-based chassis and a compact internal layout, are intended to keep the machine thin without abandoning premium specifications.
The MateBook Pro S is on sale only in China for now, where prices begin at 7,999 yuan, or about $1,185. No official international launch has been announced, although TechRadar reported that third-party sellers are already offering to ship units overseas at a marked-up price. For buyers outside China, that leaves the device as a striking but difficult-to-access example of Huawei’s current laptop strategy: aggressive hardware, a proprietary operating system and limited formal availability beyond its home market.
