Huawei has launched the MateBook Pro S, claiming it is the world’s lightest 14-inch notebook at just 798 grams, featuring a new Kirin XE90 processor and advanced privacy OLED display, marking a significant step in thin-and-light PC design.
Huawei has put the MateBook Pro S on sale, positioning it as a premium ultralight notebook and claiming a body weight of 798 grams. The company says the 14-inch class device went on sale after a week of pre-orders and is being sold through its own online channels, including VMall and JD. The launch marks Huawei’s latest push into thin-and-light PCs, a segment where weight, battery life and thermal design are central selling points.
According to Huawei Central’s launch report, the notebook is offered in four versions: Standard, PaperMatte, Privacy Edition and Collector’s Edition. Only the first two are available immediately, while the higher-end Privacy and Collector’s editions are due later in the month. The entry model starts at 7,999 yuan for 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, rising to 10,499 yuan for the 24GB and 1TB configuration, while the PaperMatte model is priced at 9,999 yuan for 24GB and 512GB.
The device’s main technical hook is the Kirin XE90 processor. Huawei says the chip delivers a 23% improvement in single-core performance and a 25% gain in energy efficiency, while also lifting neural processing unit performance by 40%. That reflects Huawei’s effort to differentiate the machine not only on weight but also on efficiency, a more meaningful measure for portable systems than headline processor speed alone.
The laptop uses a 14.2-inch flexible OLED 3.1K privacy display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,600 nits. Huawei also says the panel uses a dual-pixel structure designed to support both normal viewing and privacy protection within the same pixel area. The chassis is made from a magnesium-lithium alloy, according to earlier reporting on the product, and Huawei is offering five colour finishes: Midsummer Purple, Dawn Yellow, Smoke Grey, Velvet White and Feather Black.
Power comes from a 54Wh battery, which Huawei describes as its first high-silicon anode pack for this class of device. The company says the battery raises energy density by 15% and cuts weight by 10%, with up to 18 hours of local 1080p video playback. The notebook also includes a 3mm cooling fan, a reminder that extreme thinness still requires careful thermal engineering if sustained performance is to remain stable.
