MSI’s limited-edition Crosshair A16 pairs RTX 5070 power with dragon-themed extras

Pre-orders have opened globally for MSI’s Crosshair A16 HX MLG Edition, combining a 240Hz QHD+ display and high-end gaming hardware with a themed accessory bundle.

MSI has started taking pre-orders for the Crosshair A16 HX MLG Edition, a limited-run gaming laptop that the company says will be sold globally and aimed at players and creators who want high-end hardware with a more distinctive finish.

The machine can be specified with an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, which carries 12GB of GDDR7 memory. MSI says its OverBoost mode allows combined CPU and GPU power draw to reach up to 190W, while cooling is handled by a dual-fan system, five heat pipes and four exhaust vents designed to keep performance stable under heavier loads. The notebook also features a 16-inch QHD+ panel with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, a 240Hz refresh rate and full DCI-P3 coverage, placing it squarely in the category of laptops intended to handle both fast-paced gaming and colour-sensitive creative work.

The design is a major part of the product’s appeal. MSI has finished the chassis in Stellar White with a pearl-like effect, then added red accents, a white keyboard, four-zone RGB lighting and red rubber feet. The MLG branding refers to LOONG:NIA, a dragon-inspired character created by MSI for the edition, and the theme carries through the packaging and bundled accessories. Buyers receive an MLG Edition mouse, headset and extended mouse pad, while some markets will also include a character figure until stocks run out.

MSI is pitching the device as a flexible system for both work and play. It supports up to 96GB of DDR5 memory across two slots, as well as PCIe Gen4 and Gen5 storage, with SuperRAID 5 among the supported configurations. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, HDMI 2.1, USB Type-C with DisplayPort and power delivery, USB Type-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.3, a combined audio jack and a Kensington lock slot. The laptop also ships with MSI’s AI Engine software, which adjusts system settings for gaming, work, entertainment and meetings, alongside Nvidia’s on-device AI features built into the RTX 50 series platform. MSI has indicated starting prices of AUD 3,599, with the final cost varying by region and configuration.
