Oppo’s Find X9 Ultra emerges as a leading contender for the best camera phone of 2026, combining cutting-edge hardware with advanced imaging capabilities, although its size and price may limit wider appeal.
Oppo’s Find X9 Ultra is a serious attempt to take the crown for the best camera phone on sale. In Tek’s review, Torstein Norum Bugge judged it to be level with Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra, while other recent reviews have also placed it among the most advanced smartphones of 2026. The verdict is clear: this is not a mainstream flagship dressed up as a camera phone. It is a purpose-built device for users who care most about image quality, battery life and top-tier hardware.
The hardware is extreme even by current flagship standards. According to Tek, the phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage in the Norwegian model and pairs that with a 7,050mAh battery. It supports 100-watt wired charging and 50-watt wireless charging, while IP69 protection adds a rare level of dust and water resistance. Tek said the phone felt fast and stable in everyday use, with no obvious lag in demanding tasks, though the aluminium frame can become very hot during extended gaming or heavy camera use.
Display and audio are also strongly positioned. Tek described the 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED panel as bright and attractive, while the speakers were among the best he had heard on an Android phone this year. That matters because Oppo is pitching the Find X9 Ultra as a complete premium device, not only a camera platform. Reviewers at TechRadar and Android Central also pointed to the large battery, refined screen and polished software experience as part of the phone’s wider appeal, even if they noted that the size and weight will not suit everyone.
The camera system is the centrepiece. Tek said Oppo’s main sensor is 1/1.12 inch with a 200-megapixel resolution, joined by another 200-megapixel telephoto camera, a 50-megapixel 10x periscope lens and a 50-megapixel ultrawide. Android Central likewise highlighted the dual 200-megapixel setup and described it as a major step forward for mobile photography. In practice, Tek found the Oppo especially strong on dynamic range, shadows and long-distance zoom, while Xiaomi still had the edge at some mid-range zoom levels and macro shots. Selfies were judged to be the weak point, with both Tek and other reviewers saying the front camera is less impressive than the rear array.
That leaves the Find X9 Ultra as an enthusiast’s phone rather than a universal recommendation. Tek praised its premium build, fast charging, huge battery and excellent camera performance, but also criticised the oversized camera module, the extra buttons that add little value and the higher price. TechAdvisor was even blunter, calling it the best smartphone of 2026 while warning that it is big, expensive and excessive for many buyers. The wider picture is that Oppo has now built one of the few phones that can genuinely compete with Xiaomi’s imaging flagship. For buyers who want the most capable camera phone rather than the neatest all-rounder, the Find X9 Ultra belongs at the very top of the shortlist.
