OPPO unveils the Reno16 series, a new lineup aimed at content creators, featuring high-megapixel cameras, innovative AI editing tools, and a distinctive nebula-like design, challenging traditional mid-range phones with features typically found in premium models.
OPPO has put the Reno16 series squarely in the creator-phone category, pitching it as a mid-range line built for people who shoot, edit and post from the handset itself. According to OPPO’s announcement, the range includes the Reno16, Reno16 Pro and Reno16 F, all of which centre on a 3D Pop Planet design using HoloVerse 3D technology to create a floating, nebula-like finish that changes with the light. The company is also using the line to push a stronger software message, with ColorOS 16 and a set of on-device AI tools intended to reduce reliance on separate editing apps.
The camera hardware is the main selling point. OPPO says the Reno16 Pro uses a 200-megapixel main camera, while the standard Reno16 steps down to a 50-megapixel primary sensor but keeps the wider creator-focused package. The series also includes a 50-megapixel ultra-wide selfie camera with a 100-degree field of view, which is meant to help with group shots, outfit posts and wider framing. OPPO has also added 4K Auto Straighten Video and Dual-View Video 2.0, features aimed at stabilising casual footage and capturing the user and the scene at the same time.
The editing tools are built into the camera and gallery apps rather than being left to third-party software. OPPO says AI Remix Collage can turn videos and Motion Photos into animated compositions, while Pop Cam adds retro-style looks such as Digicam, Instant Film and Light Leak inside the Camera app. The company is also bundling the OPPO Bubble accessory, which works as a rear-camera monitor and remote shutter. That is intended to make solo shooting easier, particularly for travel, full-body photos and group pictures where the photographer also wants to be in the frame.
Battery life is another central part of the pitch. According to OPPO, the Reno16 and Reno16 Pro carry 6,700mAh batteries, while the Reno16 F goes to 7,000mAh in some markets, with 80W SuperVOOC charging across the line. The company says the phones are designed for full days of recording, browsing and multitasking without frequent recharging. In some markets, the company has also highlighted dust and water resistance, although specifications and availability vary by country.
Pricing depends on market, but OPPO’s UK launch information places the Reno16 at £699 for the 8GB and 512GB model and the Reno16 Pro at £899 for the 12GB and 512GB version, with launch promotions reducing the effective price for some early buyers. That positioning suggests OPPO is trying to bridge the gap between mainstream mid-range phones and more expensive camera-focused models. For buyers who want strong imaging tools, a distinctive design and long battery life in one device, the Reno16 series is clearly meant to compete on features rather than raw specifications alone.
