Red Magic’s latest flagship pairs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip with an 185Hz display, an 8,400mAh battery and an unusually elaborate cooling system.
Red Magic has unveiled the 12 Pro+ in China, pushing further into the niche of high-performance gaming phones with an unusual focus on cooling. The device pairs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with an almost edge-to-edge 6.85-inch AMOLED display, a 185Hz refresh rate and an 8,400mAh battery, placing it among the more aggressively specified handsets in its class, according to Gizmochina’s launch report.
The most distinctive element is its thermal design. The company says the phone combines liquid cooling, RGB illumination and an integrated fan in a system built to sustain gaming performance under heavy load. The Tech Outlook, in an earlier breakdown of the hardware, said the cooling assembly uses a dual-loop liquid path, a dual-crystal micropump and server-grade fluorinated coolant, while Gizmochina described the visible liquid channels and illuminated sections as part of the phone’s transparent rear design.
Red Magic has also packed in hardware intended to reduce latency and improve sustained frame rates. The phone includes LPDDR5T memory, UFS 4.1 Pro storage, a RedCore R5 gaming coprocessor and a G1 display controller. In supported titles, the company says the handset can upscale to 2K resolution and use frame interpolation at up to 185Hz. For touch input, the screen samples at 500Hz, while the side-mounted shoulder triggers are rated at 700Hz.
The display itself uses BOE’s X11 OLED panel, with a 2,688 x 1,216 resolution, under-screen front camera and 0.96mm bezels. On the rear, the handset carries a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Other features include dual symmetrical speakers with Dolby Atmos, a linear vibration motor, Wi-Fi 7, NFC and REDMAGIC OS 12, which adds updated gaming controls, AI tools and improved external display streaming.
The company says Chinese sales begin on 15 October. Pricing starts at 6,999 yuan for the 12GB/256GB model and rises to 8,999 yuan for the 16GB/1TB version. Red Magic has also introduced a limited Golden Saga edition with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, although it has not yet disclosed pricing or international availability.
