ZTE’s latest gaming phone adds a 185Hz AMOLED display, expanded cooling system and 8,400mAh battery, while retaining features such as a headphone jack and shoulder controls.
ZTE’s nubia gaming line has received a substantial refresh with the launch of the RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China on 16 October 2026, a handset aimed squarely at players who want sustained performance rather than headline speed alone. According to mobile.ir and later launch coverage, the new model builds on the previous generation with a faster display, more aggressive cooling and a larger battery, while keeping the design within a relatively slim and manageable frame for a gaming phone.
The centrepiece is a 6.85-inch AMOLED panel with a 2,688 x 1,216 resolution and a 185Hz refresh rate, paired with extremely narrow 0.96mm bezels and an under-display selfie camera. Gizmochina, PhoneArena and other launch reports say the camera is a 16-megapixel unit hidden beneath the screen, allowing the front of the phone to remain uninterrupted. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass 7i and integrates an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.
Inside, the phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, alongside RedMagic’s RedCore R5 gaming chip. Coverage from Gizmochina, InnoReviews and LiveMint says the hardware package can be configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5T memory and as much as 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage, while the Chinese market also gets a special 24GB memory variant. RedMagic says the auxiliary chip is used for functions such as ray tracing, upscaling to 2K and pushing supported games to 185Hz.
Battery life is another major change. The RedMagic 12 Pro+ carries an 8,400mAh battery, which launch reports say supports 120W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, plus 22.5W reverse wired charging. The company also claims the phone can power the device directly from the charger without cycling energy through the battery, a feature intended to reduce heat during long gaming sessions. Despite the larger battery, mobile.ir noted that the handset remains about 8.6mm thick and weighs 223g.
Cooling has been expanded as well. According to mobile.ir and the launch reports, the phone combines active fan cooling with liquid cooling, graphene, a vapour chamber and what RedMagic describes as liquid metal thermal management. The rear cooling module includes RGB lighting, while shoulder buttons remain on the frame with a 700Hz touch sampling rate. The device also keeps features that many gaming phones have abandoned, including stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, infrared, Wi-Fi 7 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 with display output. RedMagic is expected to market the phone internationally simply as the RedMagic 12 Pro, with global pricing due to be announced on 3 November.
