Sony has launched the Alpha 7R VI in India with a 66.8-megapixel stacked sensor, 30fps continuous shooting, 8K video and AI-powered subject tracking.
Sony India has unveiled the Alpha 7R VI, extending its premium full-frame mirrorless range with a model built around a 66.8-megapixel back-illuminated stacked Exmor RS sensor and the new BIONZ XR2 image processor. The company says the camera is aimed at photographers and filmmakers who need both very high resolution and faster handling, with Sony’s UK press office describing it as part of the sixth generation of the Alpha 7R line.
The new body places greater emphasis on speed than earlier high-resolution cameras in the series. Digital Camera World reported at launch that the A7R VI can shoot at up to 30 frames a second using the electronic shutter, while the processor’s integrated AI system improves subject detection and tracking. Sony also says the camera supports up to 60 autofocus and auto-exposure calculations per second, with real-time recognition designed to follow human subjects, including moving athletes and other fast action.
Video has also been strengthened. Sony says the camera can record 8K at 30p with oversampling from 8.2K and offers full-frame 4K capture at up to 120p without crop. Digital Camera World noted that the model also introduces dual gain shooting and refined stabilisation, while Sony highlights improved heat management and internal recording times of up to 120 minutes for 8K footage.
Alongside the camera, Sony has introduced the XLR-A4 adaptor for professional audio work. The accessory supports 32-bit float recording and, according to Sony, can handle up to four channels of digital audio on compatible cameras. In India, the Alpha 7R VI is listed at Rs4,70,990 and is being sold through Sony Center outlets, ShopatSC.com and Amazon, with the company also offering a complimentary NP-SA100 battery for a limited period.
