TCL aims to regain ground in upper mid-range smartphones with the P80 Pro

TCL launches the P80 Pro, a competitively priced upper mid-range smartphone featuring a slim design, large OLED display, and robust hardware, signalling a renewed push into the crowded segment amid stiff competition.

TCL is trying to re-establish itself in smartphones with the P80 Pro, a model the company says is meant to put it back into a more competitive position. The handset has a slim design and a large 6.83-inch OLED display, signalling that TCL is aiming squarely at the crowded upper mid-range segment rather than the budget end of the market.

The screen runs at 120Hz and carries a resolution of 1,280 x 2,766 pixels, which should make motion and scrolling look smoother than on standard 60Hz panels. TCL is pairing that with Android 16, a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite processor and a Mali-G615 MC2 graphics unit. Memory options start at 6GB or 8GB of RAM, while storage goes up to 512GB, with microSDXC expansion also supported.

Camera hardware is led by a dual rear setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary lens, plus a 32-megapixel front camera. TCL says the main camera can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. The phone also includes dual-SIM support, USB Type-C 2.0, NFC, a fingerprint reader, an electronic compass and satellite positioning features. Power comes from a 5,800mAh battery with fast charging. That battery capacity matches the 5,800mAh cell used in Huawei’s Pura 80 Pro, which was launched with a similarly sized OLED panel and prices from about €350, underlining how closely TCL is pitching the P80 Pro to rivals in the same price band.

The P80 Pro will be sold in blue and gold, with pricing expected to start at roughly €350. For TCL, the challenge will be turning a competitive specification sheet into real market traction. The company has strong hardware on paper, but the smartphone market remains dominated by brands with deeper retail reach, broader software ecosystems and far stronger device loyalty.
