Timex launches the Retroware Digital, a stylish throwback to 1990s sports models, featuring simple digital functions and vintage aesthetics at an accessible price point.
Timex has added a new digital line to its catalogue with the Retroware Digital, a watch family built around the look of 1990s sports models rather than modern smartwatch styling. According to the launch details, the first versions come in matte blue and grey-green, each paired with a colour-matched plastic strap, and the price starts at $149. The design is deliberately simple, which places it closer to the brand’s long-running utility watches than to its connected devices.
The watch uses a 46mm resin case that is 11mm thick, with a 50mm lug-to-lug span. Despite the larger footprint, Timex says the resin construction keeps the watch light enough for everyday wear. A curved digital display is used to make the digits easier to read, while an acrylic crystal sits over the screen. That choice favours impact resistance and allows minor scratches to be polished out more easily than with harder but less forgiving materials.
Inside, the Retroware Digital is a standard quartz watch powered by a CR2025 coin-cell battery. There is no Bluetooth, step tracking or other connected function. Timex has kept the feature set to basic digital-watch tools: a daily alarm, countdown timer and chronograph. The watch also includes the company’s Indiglo backlight, which illuminates the dial at the press of a button, and it is rated to 50 metres of water resistance, making it suitable for rain and light swimming.
The new model continues a pattern Timex has followed for years, reviving older design cues at accessible prices. In 2020, Maxim reported on the Q Timex Reissue Digital LCA, another retro-inspired digital watch priced at $149, with a stainless-steel case, a smaller 32.5mm format and 30-metre water resistance. Timex’s own product page for that model lists a 32.5mm case, a single-bulb backlight and the same core trio of alarm, chronograph and countdown functions, underlining how the brand has used vintage styling as a stable product formula rather than a one-off nostalgia play.
