Xiaomi launches affordable Redmi A7 with surprisingly high-end features in Malaysia

Xiaomi introduces the Redmi A7 in Malaysia, offering a large 6.88-inch display, long-lasting 5200mAh battery, and AI security features at an accessible RM469 price point, targeting budget-conscious consumers seeking more value in basic smartphones.

Xiaomi has brought the Redmi A7 to Malaysia as a low-cost Android phone pitched at basic everyday use, with pricing set at RM469 for the 3GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. The company says sales will begin on 15 September 2026 through Xiaomi Stores nationwide and its online channels, including mi.com, Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop.

The Redmi A7 pairs entry-level hardware with a few features usually reserved for more expensive phones. According to Xiaomi’s product listing, it uses a 6.88-inch LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, is powered by a Unisoc T7250 octa-core chip and carries a 5200mAh battery with 15W charging support. The phone also includes a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, a side fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock.

The device measures 171.79mm by 77.8mm by 8.26mm and weighs 193g. Xiaomi is offering it in Black, Sky Blue and Orchid Purple. The phone also supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, dual SIM use and a microSD card, which may help offset the modest built-in storage. A 3.5mm headphone jack is included, along with Wet Touch Technology, which is designed to keep the screen responsive when hands are damp.

Xiaomi is also positioning the display as easier on the eyes, with TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light, circadian friendliness and flicker-free performance. On paper, the Redmi A7 looks tailored to buyers who want a large screen, long battery life and basic biometric security without paying for mid-range features. The limited RAM and storage remain the main constraint, although the presence of microSD support should help users who need more room for media and apps.
