JBL Boombox 3 or 4? Black Friday prices will decide the better party speaker

The Boombox 3 remains the value choice with a deep discount, while the lighter Boombox 4 offers longer battery life, newer connectivity and stronger protection at a higher price.

For shoppers weighing a large Bluetooth speaker for parties, garden gatherings and open-air use, the JBL Boombox range still stands out as a practical choice. Canaltech says the decision in the 2026 Black Friday sales is likely to come down to price, because the Boombox 3 remains a strong performer while the Boombox 4 adds a newer feature set, a lighter build and longer battery life. The key question is whether those upgrades justify the extra outlay.

The Boombox 3 is still widely regarded as the safer value pick if the discount is sharp enough. RTINGS and Tom’s Guide both describe it as a speaker with powerful output, deep bass and a convincing low end, helped by a layout that includes a dedicated subwoofer, two mid-range drivers, two tweeters and passive radiators. Its IP67 rating makes it well suited to outdoor use, and battery life is quoted at up to 24 hours. The trade-off is weight: at about 6.7kg, it is not especially easy to carry for long distances.

The Boombox 4 is more than a cosmetic refresh, but it is also not a complete redesign. According to RTINGS, TechRadar and Trusted Reviews, JBL has kept the party-speaker formula while adding clearer refinements: two 5-inch woofers, two tweeters, three passive radiators, Auracast support, Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C lossless playback and two bass-boost modes. The company also claims up to 28 hours of battery life, with Playtime Boost extending that further in some conditions. RTINGS says the Boombox 4 delivers a more balanced sound signature and strong loudness, although dynamics can soften at higher volumes and sound dispersion is not perfect for every listening position.

Canaltech argues that the most attractive buy thresholds for Black Friday 2026 are around R$1,400 to R$1,500 for the Boombox 3 and R$1,900 to R$2,100 for the Boombox 4. At those levels, the older model becomes the more rational purchase if the gap between them is large, while the newer speaker makes sense for buyers who value the lighter chassis, IP68 protection and more advanced processing. In practice, the better deal will depend less on the brochure and more on how close each price lands to those targets on the day.
