Samsung Galaxy A37 takes the all-rounder crown as POCO X8 bets on battery power

The Galaxy A37 delivers stronger performance, cameras, connectivity and software support, while Xiaomi’s POCO X8 counters with a brighter display, faster charging and a huge 8,340mAh battery.

Samsung’s Galaxy A37 and Xiaomi’s POCO X8 are pitched at the same broad audience, but they pursue that market in different ways. On paper, the Samsung model looks like the more rounded handset: it combines a glass back with a lighter, slimmer body, carries Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both sides, and offers IP68 protection against dust and water. The POCO takes a more rugged route, with an all-plastic chassis, IP68 plus IP69K certification, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the screen, although it is noticeably thicker and heavier.

The display is one of the clearest points of differentiation. Samsung uses a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness rated at 1,900 nits. Xiaomi counters with a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED screen at 1,280 x 2,772 pixels, also running at 120Hz, but with a much higher claimed peak brightness of 3,500 nits. In practical terms, the POCO should offer more headroom outdoors and a sharper image, while the Galaxy A37 leans on Samsung’s established display tuning and a more compact footprint.

Performance also tilts towards the Galaxy A37. It uses Samsung’s Exynos 1480, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and according to the comparison it is the stronger chip for sustained performance and heavier gaming. The POCO X8 relies on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, with RAM options rising to 12GB and the same storage ceiling, but it is described as trailing the Exynos chip in raw power. For most everyday use, both should be sufficient; the difference is more likely to show up under load.

The camera hardware follows the same pattern of trade-offs. Samsung fits a triple rear system with a 50-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 5-megapixel macro unit, plus a 12-megapixel front camera. It can record video at up to 4K at 30 frames per second. Xiaomi’s phone uses a simpler dual rear setup with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, backed by a 16-megapixel selfie camera, but its video capture is limited to Full HD at 30 frames per second. That makes the Galaxy A37 the more versatile option for photography and video.

Battery life is where the POCO X8 makes its strongest case. Its 8,340mAh battery is far larger than the Galaxy A37’s 5,000mAh cell, and it supports 67W fast charging as well as 22.5W reverse charging. Samsung responds with 45W charging, which is respectable, but the capacity gap is substantial. Software support is another Samsung advantage: the Galaxy A37 launched with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 and is promised six years of system and security updates, while Xiaomi promises four major Android upgrades and six years of security patches for the POCO X8. Connectivity is also better on the Samsung side, with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, compared with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 on the Xiaomi. On price, the Galaxy A37 launched at R$ 3,299 but is now seen around R$ 1,500, while the POCO X8, although not officially sold in Brazil, is being offered by some retailers for about R$ 1,800. For most buyers, the Samsung is the more complete all-rounder; the Xiaomi makes more sense if battery endurance, brightness and charging speed matter more than camera flexibility and top-end performance.
