Nvidia's RTX Spark PCs edge closer to mainstream viability with upcoming device launch

Nvidia is set to ship its first Windows PCs built around the RTX Spark chip in October 2026, marking a significant step for Arm-based notebooks in AI, content creation, and gaming , with multiple OEMs already showcasing innovative designs and enhanced gaming performance.

The timing matters because the gaming story around Spark looks stronger now than it did at its Computex unveiling on 1 June. Tom’s Guide said that, at Computex, only Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra was switched on and usable, whereas by Gamescom all six Spark laptops it tried were active. Just as important, the reports suggest Spark will succeed or fail on laptop design rather than silicon alone. Tom’s Guide placed HP’s OmniBook Ultra 16 at the top of its gaming ranking because of its unusually strong keyboard, with Lenovo’s Yoga Pro 9n and MSI’s Prestige N16 Flip AI+ close behind. PC Gamer was especially taken with the Asus ProArt P14’s milled aluminium body and vivid OLED display, and also praised Dell’s XPS 16 Creator Edition for staying relatively quiet while running Doom: The Dark Ages. At IFA, Nvidia also clarified the chip line-up. Windows Central reported two RTX Spark N1X configurations: a top tier for laptops and compact desktops with 20 Grace CPU cores, 6,144 Blackwell RTX cores and up to 128GB of unified memory, and a lower-power laptop version with 18 CPU cores and 5,120 GPU cores that the publication said would ship with 24GB or 32GB of memory and could bring prices closer to US$2,000. Nvidia’s current product page broadly matches the core counts and form factors, but it lists the second laptop-class variant at up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory and shows both laptop versions in a 45W-to-80W power range, while a desktop N1X is listed at 140W. Underneath the launch lies a bigger strategic move. Ars Technica described Spark as Nvidia’s entry into the Arm PC market and said the chip pairs a Grace CPU co-developed with MediaTek with up to 6,144 Blackwell-based GPU cores and unified memory. Engadget called it a Windows-focused sibling to the earlier DGX Spark mini-desktop and reported Nvidia’s claim of 1 petaflop of AI compute, with no plan to pair the SoC with a separate discrete GPU. The main unresolved technical question is software compatibility. Ars Technica cautioned that translated games can still suffer lag or responsiveness issues even when frame rates look acceptable, and that many titles relying on kernel-level anti-cheat still do not run on Arm at all. But the crucial unknowns remain the ones that normally decide this category: final pricing, sustained performance outside a controlled booth demo, and how much real-world gaming survives the compromises of Arm translation and slim-chassis thermals.
