Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 5G, a device focused on extended battery life and a sizeable display for users seeking long-lasting connectivity and easy viewing, but it falls short in power and resolution compared to its rivals.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 17 5G is aimed at buyers who care far more about stamina and screen size than raw power. The handset is built around a 7,500mAh battery, 5G connectivity and a 6.9-inch display, while Xiaomi positions the 256GB model at €309.99 and offers the phone in black, blue and orange. That places it above the entry level, but still short of a full mid-range package.
The appeal is clear. This is a large phone for people who stream video, read, chat and browse for long stretches, or for older users who want a big, easy-to-see screen. The front is dominated by a centred punch-hole camera, while Xiaomi also includes practical features such as microSD expansion, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC and reverse charging. The company says the battery can support up to 109 hours of music playback and that wired reverse charging is rated at 22.5W.
There are, however, obvious trade-offs. The display uses an LCD panel with HD+ resolution rather than a sharper Full HD+ specification, which means text and fine detail will not look as crisp as on some similarly priced rivals. Notebookcheck also notes that the Redmi 17 5G uses entry-level Snapdragon performance and relatively modest memory for its class, despite the 120Hz refresh rate and large battery. Xiaomi says the device can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM, but the base model discussed by Movilzona is far more limited.
That makes the Redmi 17 5G a niche recommendation rather than an all-rounder. It makes sense for users who want endurance, a big screen and straightforward everyday use, not for anyone prioritising gaming, low-light photography or heavy multitasking. In that respect, it sits in a crowded segment, with Redmi Note 17 models and phones such as the POCO M8 and Samsung Galaxy A27 cited by Movilzona as its closest alternatives, and with some competing Redmi Note 17 variants offering larger batteries and stronger camera hardware.
