Apple’s HomeView skips EU launch as Siri AI remains blocked by DMA

Apple’s $299 HomeView smart display will launch in the US without a European release date, as the company continues talks with regulators over Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.

Apple’s new HomeView smart display will not launch in the European Union at the same time as the United States, leaving Portugal and other member states out of the initial rollout. The device, a 7-inch home hub designed to sit at the centre of family use, is built around Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, which Apple says are not yet available in the bloc.

According to Apple’s earlier European statement on Siri AI, the company has delayed availability in the EU because of the Digital Markets Act, which it says has blocked its proposed approach for bringing the assistant to the region. Apple said it is still working with EU regulators to find a path forward, but it has not set a timetable for release. The same constraint now appears to be affecting HomeView, which depends heavily on voice control and Apple’s broader AI stack.

In the US, Apple has priced HomeView at $299 and opened pre-orders on 13 October, with deliveries due from 13 November. The device is offered in two versions: one with an aluminium base, a built-in speaker system and support for Spatial Audio, and another intended for wall mounting. Apple says it can recognise up to six people and adapt the interface to each user, while also supporting FaceTime with Centre Stage, Intercom, Handoff from iPhone and multi-room audio.

The delay in Europe underscores a wider pattern in Apple’s current product cycle. HomeView is among the first devices in the company’s latest line-up to be held back specifically because its core software features are not yet cleared for EU use. Other recent products, including new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini models, have also carried warnings that Siri AI will not initially be available in the region, suggesting that Apple’s next-generation home and media hardware is now being shaped as much by regulation as by design.
