Anthropic has launched a versatile voice mode for its Claude AI, accessible on mobile, desktop, and web, with support for multiple models and integration with connected services to streamline routine tasks and improve user interaction.
Anthropic’s Claude now offers voice mode across its mobile apps, desktop software and the web, although the company says it works best on a phone. On mobile, users open the app, tap the black waveform icon in the lower-right corner, allow microphone access if prompted and begin speaking. Claude listens first, then responds when a prompt is complete, and it stays in voice mode until the user stops it. According to Anthropic’s help materials, the experience is designed to be simple and works alongside the regular text interface rather than replacing it.
The feature uses a turn-based system, so it waits for a speaker to finish before generating an answer. That makes it less fluid than OpenAI’s newer duplex approach in ChatGPT, which can process speech and produce output at the same time. In practice, that means a short pause may be treated as the end of a question. Anthropic advises users to keep prompts clear and, when needed, ask complex questions one part at a time.
Claude’s voice mode also allows users to choose which model handles the conversation. The model picker offers Haiku for quick answers, Sonnet for everyday tasks and Opus for more demanding work, although Opus remains limited to paid accounts. Recent coverage has said the voice feature has expanded to support more capable models, which should make longer and more detailed exchanges more practical.
The system can also reach into connected services such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack, provided the user has granted permission. That means Claude can summarise email threads, check schedules or work with other linked tools while speaking aloud. Anthropic says the same permissions and app connections that apply in text chat also carry over into voice mode, which makes the feature more useful for routine admin tasks as well as hands-free use.
