Apple has introduced significant updates allowing users to customise alarm volume separately, improve location sharing privacy, and expand health monitoring, marking a major refinement across its ecosystem.
Apple has finally separated alarm and timer volume from the ringtone level, giving iPhone users finer control over how loudly alarms sound. In Settings > Sounds & Haptics, switching off “Match Ringtone Volume” under Alarms and Timers lets those alerts be adjusted on their own, rather than rising and falling with call volume. Apple’s support guidance also notes that alarm behaviour can still be affected by button-based volume controls and audio-routing settings. According to Apple Support and MacRumors, the change addresses a long-standing complaint from users whose alarms were either too quiet or uncomfortably loud.
The Find My app has also gained more flexible location-sharing controls. Apple has added custom sharing periods, replacing the older fixed choices of an hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. MacRumors reported that the latest update also allows users to hide their location for a set period without alerting the other person, who simply sees a location unavailable status. The feature is being viewed as a privacy safeguard, particularly for people trying to limit exposure in abusive or coercive situations.
Health is another area where Apple has expanded the usefulness of the iPhone. The app can now flag patterns consistent with perimenopause for users who have periods, extending Cycle Tracking beyond basic period prediction. Apple has also redesigned the Health interface with a Browse button and a card-based layout, making categories easier to navigate at a glance. In a separate change, iPhone support for GymKit now means compatible fitness equipment can pair directly with the phone, not only with Apple Watch.
Home has received some of the most technically significant updates. The app now supports 4K live streaming and recording for HomeKit Secure Video cameras that can output in 4K and are covered by an appropriate iCloud+ plan. It also presents multiple cameras more cleanly, with previews in the main view and a consolidated event view when a camera is opened. Apple Intelligence features go further by grouping related motion alerts, stitching together footage from several cameras, and letting users search recordings in natural language. Podcasts has a smaller but useful improvement: episode pages can now be searched by title and show notes, although not by transcript text.
