Apple is set to refresh its budget-friendly MacBook Neo with an A19 Pro chip and increased memory, promising notable performance improvements and new colour options in a 2027 launch.
Apple is preparing a second-generation MacBook Neo that would keep the line’s low-cost, compact positioning while lifting its performance and memory ceiling. According to Bloomberg, the update is expected to centre on an A19 Pro chip, the same family of processor used in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air, with a launch window in 2027.
The move would mark a meaningful step up from the current model, which arrived in March 2026 with an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of unified memory. Reporting from MacRumors, based on Tim Culpan’s newsletter, says Apple is likely to use a binned version of the A19 Pro, meaning a 5-core GPU rather than the 6-core graphics configuration found in the iPhone 17 Pro models. Even so, the chip is expected to bring roughly 10% to 15% faster CPU performance and up to 40% stronger graphics throughput, helped by Neural Accelerators built into each GPU core.
Memory is also set to rise, with the next model said to move from 8GB to 12GB. That increase would matter less as a specification headline than as an enabler for Apple’s more demanding on-device AI features. Reports say the extra capacity should allow the MacBook Neo to run Apple’s most capable local AI model, improving dictation accuracy and enabling more customisable Siri voice options.
Apple is also expected to continue using colour as a product differentiator. Bloomberg said the company plans to refresh the notebook periodically with new finishes, although no specific colours have been identified for the next version. That would fit the current machine, which is sold in Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo, and which Apple has already repositioned in the US from an initial $599 to $699. MacRumors reported that the current model has sold strongly enough to support expectations of a follow-up, even if the timing remains uncertain beyond the 2027 target now being discussed.
