Reallusion introduces RTX Render beta to elevate real-time character visual fidelity

Reallusion has launched a free open beta of RTX Render, a new path-traced rendering mode for iClone 8 and Character Creator 5, bringing near-offline quality lighting and materials into fast, integrated workflows, particularly enhancing digital humans and virtual production scenes.

Reallusion has opened access to RTX Render, a new path-traced rendering mode for iClone 8 and Character Creator 5 that is designed to bring higher-end lighting and material realism into everyday character workflows. According to the company, the plug-in is built around NVIDIA RTX Path Tracing and is intended to narrow the gap between real-time scene building and final-frame visual quality, without forcing artists out of the software they already use.

The open beta adds physically based light transport, a new RTX material system and camera depth of field that behaves more like a real lens. Reallusion and reporting from CGChannel said the system supports material controls such as Transmission, Coat and Sheen, while the company also highlights subsurface skin scattering and a procedural sky system. The result is a renderer aimed at digital humans, cinematics and virtual production, where believable skin, reflections and shadow fall-off are often the difference between a good scene and a finished one.

Reallusion’s article places heavy emphasis on workflow rather than theory. It shows artists preparing characters in Character Creator 5, moving them directly into iClone and then switching the project into RTX mode for lighting and material refinement. The company says the advantage is immediate feedback: users can adjust spotlights, emissive surfaces, reflections and roughness values while seeing the effect in the viewport, which makes iteration faster than a traditional export-and-render cycle.

The article also features Nigerian animator Benjamin Sokomba Dazhi, known as Benny Dee, who describes the visual quality and speed of RTX Render as impressive. Reallusion quotes him saying that “Reallusion’s iClone RTX Render delivers real-time, realistic results, while AccuFACE 2 makes it easy to drive facial animation using a webcam or prerecorded video.” In the same feature, he says the tool is especially useful when combined with careful character preparation, environment dressing and camera planning.

That broader message matches the way Reallusion and third-party coverage frame the beta: not as a replacement for offline renderers, but as a faster path to near-offline results inside an animation package. Digital Production reported that users can switch between DX11 and RTX modes, with RTX handling both the viewport and final output, while Reallusion says older projects can be revisited with the new path-traced look. The beta is free, which lowers the barrier to testing whether RTX rendering can become part of a studio’s standard production pipeline.
