Elecom’s compact MAGKEEP USB Type-C reader attaches to compatible smartphones, supports SD and microSD cards, and provides up to 60W charging during file transfers.
Elecom has begun selling a compact memory card reader that fixes to the back of a smartphone with a magnetic mount, making it easier to move photos and video off a card while continuing to shoot. The company says the MAGKEEP USB Type-C Memory Card Reader with USB Power Delivery support went on sale in mid-October, following an announcement on 21 October 2026.
The design is aimed at mobile photography workflows. By attaching to MagSafe-compatible iPhones, or to compatible cases and the separately sold ring stickers for other phones, the reader stays close to the handset rather than hanging from a cable. Elecom says that arrangement helps users keep operating the phone during transfers, which may be useful when shooting events, travel footage or other fast-moving subjects where stopping to clear storage would be inconvenient.
Inside the rotating protective cover are full-size SD and microSD card slots. According to Elecom, both support UHS-I speeds of up to 104MB/s, and the reader can also work with UHS-II and SD Express cards, although transfer speeds remain limited to UHS-I performance. The cover is intended to keep dust and debris away from the slots, and the company says the design avoids the risk of misplacing a separate cap. A direct-attached cable, measuring about 13cm, is built in to reduce clutter in bags and on the move.
The reader also includes a dedicated USB Type-C charging port, allowing smartphones to be charged at up to 60W while data is being transferred. Elecom says no driver installation is required, although the device does not support copyright protection functions. The company has positioned the product as a practical accessory for users who need to clear phone storage quickly and then move files on to a computer for editing or archiving.
Pricing is set at 3,780 yen, or 3,436 yen before tax, in both black and white. According to Elecom, the black version is available through retail channels including Bic Camera’s online store and its own direct shop on Rakuten, while the white model is sold only online. The company also says the product meets its THINK ECOLOGY criteria, using packaging designed to be smaller than its internal benchmark and made from paper, cardboard and plastic film with reduced overall plastic content.
