Fairphone’s Fairbuds 2 pair replaceable batteries with LDAC and 45dB noise cancelling

Fairphone’s second-generation wireless earbuds combine seven user-replaceable parts with upgraded sound, ANC and up to 40 hours of battery life.

Fairphone’s second-generation Fairbuds 2 have arrived with the same repair-first philosophy that defines the company’s wider hardware strategy, but with a more ambitious audio specification. The Dutch maker says the earbuds use a modular structure with seven parts that owners can replace themselves, including the batteries in both the buds and the charging case. According to Fairphone’s product information, the earbuds are on sale for €119.99, while the company’s US site lists them at $119.99 and includes a three-year warranty.

The hardware has also been redesigned around sound quality and longevity. Fairphone says the earbuds use 11mm dynamic drivers with bio-cellulose diaphragms, a material choice intended to deliver quicker response, stronger bass and cleaner treble. Notebookcheck reported that the Fairbuds 2 also support Sony’s LDAC codec for higher-resolution wireless audio, along with app-based EQ controls and preset tuning options. The company claims the earphones have been reshaped to fit a wider range of ears and to improve passive isolation.

Noise cancelling has been upgraded as well. Fairphone says the Fairbuds 2 use a six-microphone system, with three microphones in each earbud, to improve voice pickup and call quality. The hybrid active noise-cancelling system is rated to cut external noise by up to 45dB. Several reports note that the model also supports multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, Bluetooth 6.0 and IP54 protection against dust and splashes, which should make them more practical for daily use.

Battery life is another major selling point. Fairphone says the earbuds and charging case together deliver up to 40 hours of listening, and that a 10-minute charge can provide roughly 2.5 hours of use. The companion app has also been updated, with more detailed audio controls and a location function that can trigger a speaker sound from the earbuds if they are misplaced. Independent coverage has highlighted the smaller charging case and the company’s use of fair and recycled materials, though one early review suggested the sound can still feel slightly less refined than that of some rivals in the same price range.
