ORICO’s new magnetic dock combines an M.2 NVMe enclosure with an eight-port USB-C hub, letting compatible iPhones record ProRes footage directly to external storage while charging and connecting peripherals.
ORICO has unveiled an eight-in-one magnetic dock that combines an M.2 2230 NVMe enclosure with a USB-C hub, aiming to let users capture and store iPhone video directly to external storage rather than relying on internal memory. The company says the device is designed for users shooting 4K ProRes footage on recent iPhone Pro models, as well as for those who want a compact hub for phones, tablets and laptops.
The dock brings together SSD storage, HDMI output, USB-C and USB-A ports, dual SD and TF card readers, a 3.5mm AUX port and a PD100W charging connection. ORICO says the M.2 slot supports up to 2TB, while the HDMI interface can output at 4K at 60Hz. The card readers support SD/TF 3.0, and the audio jack is intended to handle both playback and input, including microphone use.
A magnetic mounting system is central to the design. ORICO says the unit attaches securely to the back of compatible devices, making it easier to use one-handed while recording or transferring files. A supplied magnetic ring extends compatibility beyond MagSafe-equipped iPhones to Android handsets as well.
For creators, the most notable feature is direct recording support. According to ORICO, the dock can save 4K ProRes video from the iPhone 17, 16 and 15 Pro and Pro Max models straight to the 2230 SSD or to SD and TF cards. That reduces the need to offload footage later and may help avoid running out of space on the handset during longer shoots. The company also notes that SSDs must be formatted as exFAT before use.
The hub’s USB 3.2 ports are rated for data transfers of up to 10Gbps, allowing peripherals such as keyboards, mice, USB drives and external hard drives to be connected at the same time. The HDMI output is intended for screen mirroring, including presentations, video playback, online meetings and gaming.
Power delivery is another part of the package. ORICO says the PD100W port can charge a connected smartphone or laptop while the dock is in use, which is important when recording video or copying large files over extended periods. The company recommends SSDs that draw no more than 4.5W from the phone itself, with external PD power advised for higher-consuming drives.
Compatibility extends to full-function USB-C devices, including iPhone 17, 16 and 15 models, MacBook Pro and Air laptops, iPad Pro tablets, Android smartphones and other notebooks. For iPhone 14 and earlier devices, ORICO says an OTG adapter is required. It also warns that some setups may need external power if the connected device cannot supply enough energy through OTG.
The company has also attached several practical notes. If the storage notification does not appear, users are told to check the Files app. ORICO says the phone’s audio output may stop while the dock is connected, and that sound can be restored by attaching headphones or removing the accessory. The dock is being offered through Amazon with a limited-time autumn promotion running from October 13 to October 21, combining an immediate 48% discount with a further 10% code, which ORICO says works out at roughly 53% off overall.
