ORICO’s magnetic iPhone reader records ProRes while charging at 100W

ORICO’s new dual-slot magnetic card reader lets compatible iPhones record ProRes directly to removable storage while passing through up to 100W of power.

ORICO has launched a MagSafe-compatible magnetic card reader that combines dual-card access, direct ProRes recording to external storage and 100W PD pass-through charging, positioning it as an all-in-one accessory for iPhone users who shoot, transfer and charge on the move.

According to the company’s announcement, the device attaches magnetically to compatible iPhones and is also supplied with a ring for non-magnetic devices, extending use to Android phones, laptops and other USB-C hardware. ORICO says the design is intended to hold securely while allowing quick attachment and removal.

The reader supports SD and TF cards at the same time, with the company claiming a maximum transfer rate of 104MB/s under the SD/TF 3.0 protocol. It also supports direct storage of ProRes video to a memory card on iPhone 17, 16 and 15 Pro and Pro Max models, although ORICO notes that external recording should be limited to 1080p because of card speed constraints. The company also advises users to format cards as exFAT on a PC before use to help ensure stable operation.

A 100W PD charging port is built in, allowing the device to read cards and power a laptop or smartphone at the same time. ORICO says this should reduce the risk of battery drain during longer shooting sessions or extended file transfers, provided users pair it with a suitable 100W power adapter. The reader is listed as compatible with iPhone, MacBook, iPad Pro, Android devices and other USB-C products, and ORICO says it can also be used with cameras, drones, dashcams and other devices that rely on removable storage.

The product is on sale on Amazon at a reduced price of 2,477 yen until 31 October, down from the regular 3,990 yen. The promotion is applied automatically on the product page and does not require a coupon code. For older iPhones, including the iPhone 14, 13, 12, 11, XS, XR, X and SE, ORICO says an OTG-capable adapter is required.
